Q & A with Celebrity Los Angeles engagement ring designer Peter Young

Of Claire’s stunning ring, he said, “It’s a gigantic pear-shaped diamond halo ring named ‘The Claire Elise Ring,’—with some very special details! It’s one of those rings that stops people in their tracks when they see it!
In addition to designing the crowns for Miss California USA and Miss California Teen USA, he works to create unique, deeply symbolic pieces that tell the stories of the couples that purchase them.
He filled us in on some of the stories behind the rings he’s created:
Miss USA 2011 Alyssa Campanella’s Engagement Ring:
“Alyssa Campanella, Miss USA 2011, who was also a former Miss California USA 2011 who wore my crown. Her fiancé Torrance Coombs, ( who plays Prince Sabastian on the CW Network Reign) and I custom created an engagement ring for Alyssa called ‘The Royal Alyssa Ring.’
Unlike a diamond, its center stone is a sapphire. Prince William got engaged to Kate Middleton with Princess Diana’s sapphire engagement ring. And it’s one of the reasons why there is a blue sapphire in the center of the Miss California USA Legacy Crown. The blue sapphire is a symbol of the continuation of regality of the blue sapphire in both California and in the USA.”
Miss USA 2014 Nia Sanchez’ Engagement Ring:
“Nia Sanchez was engaged with one of my rings from Daniel Booko, her fiancé. Her ring is a double halo ring, but there are some very unique features in there ring that stand out. One of the special features of her ring was that it had red, white and blue gems on the inside ring to symbolize her being the reigning Miss USA when she got engaged.”
Michael Phelps’ Engagement Ring:
“I also designed the ring for Olympic Legend Michael Phelps and his fiancé Nicole Johnson. There are special details in their ring and it tells a complete story. Just have to ask Nicole and Michael about that one day!”
